Guiding Reliable Infrastructure
Development in California

Supporting infrastructure today that California will depend on tomorrow.

Building the Infrastructure to Deliver
Power When It Matters Most

In its 2022-2023 Transmission Plan, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) identified the need for new transmission infrastructure to strengthen California's regional power network and maintain future reliability as the state meets its energy policy goals.

One of the projects identified through this statewide process is the Golden Pacific Powerlink, a new 500-kilovolt (kV) transmission line connecting the Imperial Valley's abundant clean energy resources to millions of Californians.

Guiding Reliable Infrastructure Development (GRID) is a forum of organizations that have independently expressed support for the Golden Pacific Powerlink.
Planning Process

Statewide Grid Planning

California’s electric grid is planned and maintained by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), which evaluates future electricity needs across the grid. Through its statewide transmission planning process, CAISO identifies where new or upgraded infrastructure is needed to maintain reliability, meet growing demand, and achieve California's energy policy goals.
PROJECT BENEFITS

Delivering for California

Reliable power is something communities, businesses and essential services count on every day. Strengthening the grid helps reduce the risk of outages, improves resilience during peak demand and helps manage energy costs over time by reducing congestion‑related costs on the grid. Investments in transmission infrastructure also support local economies by helping businesses grow and operate with confidence.

Golden Pacific Powerlink

The Golden Pacific Powerlink is a proposed 500-kV transmission line connecting energy resources in the Imperial Valley and neighboring states to demand centers across California.

Identified through CAISO's 2022–2023 Transmission Plan, the project is one of several investments needed to strengthen California's regional power network, improve the reliable delivery of electricity, and support the state's energy policy goals.
